Chinese Firms Meet Obstacles in Australia

aozhoukuang After the examination of Aluminum Corp of China’s (Chinalco’s) investment in Rio Tinto, the Australia government has decided to extend another similar examination of two more Chinese firms’ investment in the country’s miners.

According to what OZ Minerals said on Monday, the country’s Foreign Investment Review Board would extend its review of the takeover of OZ Minerals by China’s Minmetals from March 24 and the examination would last for 90 days. Read more…

Buy American will worsen temporary situation

buyamerican A clause in a sweeping economic stimulus package would undermine the country’s foreign policy and threaten the relations with other countries, especially with China, according to economists and scholars.

The main purpose of the ‘Buy American’ clause in a bill that President Barack Obama made law on Tuesday is to release $787 billion to rescue the US economy. The stimulus law says US iron and steel would be used for government projects.
