Peking University has been the “cradle of Chinese tycoons”
In the list of universities from which the richest Chinese graduated released by the China University Alumni Association (CUAA) last Thursday, Peking University ranked first with 35 billionaire alumni.
Zhejiang University and Tsinghua University are the No.2 and No.3, with 23 and 22 billionaire alumni respectively.
Billionaires graduated from Peking University includes sports good tycoon Li Ning, the former “gymnastics prince” who lit the Beijing Olympic torch at the opening ceremony on Aug 8.
Founder of news portal Sina.com Wang Zhidong and founder of education group New Oriental Yu Minhong are also billionaire alumni of Peking University.
Zhao Deguo, director of the association said these billionaire alumni serve to testify that knowledge creates fortune.
30% of the 1,500 billionaires on China’s four major rich lists over the past decade were university graduates, according to the association.
The four lists are Hurun China Rich List; Forbes China Rich List; the Southern Weekend Newspaper’s List of New Rich in China (Mainland) and the New Fortune Magazine’s List of China’s 500 Richest.
