The longest cross-sea bridge
As part of China’s efforts to push the development in the Yangtze River Delta and improve the economic integration, the longest cross-sea bridge in the world was opened to traffic on May 1st this year.
Hundreds of people participated in the opening ceremony and tens of thousands others gathered together on the banks of the bay performing dragon dances in traditional costumes to celebrate this event.
The bridge was opened to traffic at midnight.
Haiyan, Jiaxing are connected to Cixi, Ningbo in Zhejiang province through this bridge which also shorten the road trip from Shanghai to Ningbo, by 120 km.
The cable-stayed structure bridge with a 32-km section across the sea costs 11.8 billion yuan ($ 1.69 billion). Because of the construction of six-lane link, maximum speed of 100kph is allowed on this bridge. The bridge was built from November 14, 2003 to June 26 last year.
