The new long-march of the Chinese railway constructions

November 28th, 2008

In order to create more job opportunities and stimulate the domestic demands, central government has recently taken several approaches to strengthen the infrastructures. The ministry of railway announced that they plan to use 5 trillion yuan ($730 ) to build more new express rail lines and doubt the exist ones.

And by 2020, 41,000 km of new lines will be in place, and the crowed passenger transport around the Chinese lunar New Year would be completely ameliorated. In the massive construction plans, the special railway is taken as the priority. It used to take more than 30 hours from Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province and also the centre of Southwest China, to Shanghai. However, after the accomplishment of the special railway in 2010, it would only take about 7 hours to cover the 2000km distance, which would be convenient for the business people who commute between the Southwest and East China.

Furthermore, the ministry of railway also put much emphasis on the transportation of the coal miners and other natural resources. For example, Chongqin to Lanzhou and Taiyuan to Yinchuan railway lines could greatly help to transport the miners from remote provinces to developed regions of China.

Although the massive construction would take more than 20 years, which just like a long much, however, Chinese people would definitely benefit from the advanced infrastructures after 10 years. The journey would be more rapid and comfortable and our next generation would never experience the crowed carriage.

Under the background of the financial crisis and low employment rate recent years, the best of result which triggers by the constructions may be found in the statistics from a director from ministry of railway. The project would will create 6 million jobs and consume 20 million tons and 120 million tons of cement.

Can you imagine that total length of the railway only 79,000km in 2008, but it would have been 120,000km by the end of 2020.
