Organized by the British Chamber of Commerce in China, the British Business Awards rewarded innovation, education and corporate social responsibility to highlight the strong links between China and the UK.

Totally around 400 guests came together at the Westin to celebrate the “Best of British”, including some VIPs, such as the Duke of York, Cheng Siwei, former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, and Sun Yongfu, director-general of the Department of European Affairs, Ministry of Commerce.

As the ambassador to China and patron of the awards, Sir William Ehrman said, “Britain has been doing very well in both trade and investment in China”. He noted that compared with other EU countries, China invested more in the UK last year. Besides, exports of goods in Britain to China rose by over 35 percent in the first eight months of this year. He also emphasized the British Business Awards is a great platform for business community and to highlight the contributions that everyone has made for the close relationship between China and Britain.

Any individual or company with a significant connection has the right to enter the community and was judged by a panel of 40 judges from industry, education and government.

Jim James, chairman of the British Business Awards, said, “Our vision is to create an event which showcases the best of British spirit, builds a sense of community and demonstrates our collective commitment to China. The awards celebrated British and Chinese who are outstanding role models for us all.”
