Since October 2008, a series of conferences have been held timely and roundly by the Information Office of the State Council, aiming to give a full explanation for the government’s solution, as well as achievements in handling the financial crisis and guaranteeing a sustain rapid growth in economy, said by an official with the organization in a recent interview. He added that with the strength of those conferences hosted, the outside world would get a better understanding in China’s reaction to the global financial crisis.

“Informative, high-profile and timely” with which the press conference was described by a foreign correspondent, who said that they offered precious opportunities for the interview, was quoted by the official.

It’s said by him that more conferences on the latest actions China would take was to be held in the office’s schemes before early March when China’s annual legislative session began. Those conferences would avail the foreign media of the chance to know the latest actions China took to ease the financial crisis.

On the one hand, invitations would be sent to officials from China’s major decision-making departments, including the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Commerce, State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, State Administration of Taxation, China Banking Regulatory Commission, China Insurance Regulatory Commission, and State Administration of Foreign Exchange. On the other hand, all the foreign journalists stationed in China are accessible.

The official said, as for the plans reported in the purpose of getting China’s media to a new height, China will take pains to forge its communication capacity, conforming to the country’s international status and the existing degree to which the nation’s society and economy has developed, with the bases of the striking triumphs in the Olympic Games, May 12 earthquake relief and safeguarding stability in Tibet, and in accordance with environment where dramatic changes had taken place between China and the world.

All the efforts are done to offer the world a vivid picture of China, in which the international community can get clearly not only what is China, but also its intention to achieve peaceful and harmonious development through collaboration.

The official explained the important role China’s media are playing. Together, they establish a harmonious world of lasting peace and prosperity by enhancing the understanding between China and the world and promoting the exchanges and cooperation between China and other nations.

But yet, the plan of upraising China’s communication capacity remains to be proven by further research, which was emphasized by him.

In the interview, the official, again, declared that the government’s “plan” to invest 45 billion yean ($6.58 billion) in recent media reports was just something out of nothing, and the country would act, in the process of carrying out the plan, with the principle of sticking closely to the practicability and its capability.

The jobless rate could rise next year from 4% this year because of massive job cuts. If the rate rises above 5%, social stability could be threatened, a senior lawmaker warned.

So the government at the conference discussed measures to create new jobs and maintain the existing unemployment rate during the global financial crisis as rate above 5% will lead to a series of negative consequences. What is more, the number of poor urban residents would increase and living standards in cities would decline.

As a result, in order to keep the jobless rate low, local government should promptly hire more urban residents instead of migrant workers so that losing jobs would force millions of migrant workers to return to their hometown.

Although we don’t want to see the things above happen, it is the only way to keep the jobless rate low currently.

Due to the falling demand overseas having forced many factories to close, the job market in the labour intensive exports sector shrunk in the third quarter of this year.

According to a survey, because of the global financial crisis, the job market will get a two-year recession in the first quarter of next year.
